We understand the seriousness of COVID-19 and your concerns as parents with travel and other accommodations related to sports and competition. At this time (March 13, 2020 9:00 am) the South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) has not made any adjustments to spring athletics. There is a teleconference Monday morning March 16, 2020 for all district superintendents to discuss the continuation/modification of spring athletics. This will be followed by a teleconference involving the SCHSL executive committee to issue a statement on the status of spring sports. As such, we will move forward with our scheduled events for this weekend. However, we have some restrictions in place. Moving forward, all student-athletes must submit a signed and dated letter of permission to travel to away events with their respective teams. If you do not wish to send your child to an athletic event that is perfectly fine. Student-athletes will not be subject to any consequences if you as a parent decide to withhold them from an athletic competition due to COVID-19.
If you choose to send your son/daughter on a school sponsored athletic event, we recommend that you have a discussion with them about hygiene and the importance of frequent hand-washing/use of hand sanitizers. You can follow the link below to the CDC Website for assistance in discussing this with your student-athelte.
If we hear from the SCHSL or our district makes a statement regarding athletics, we will update this post.
If you have any questions, or care to discuss this matter, please contact Cody Slaughter, Athletic Director
